Translate Android, iOS and Flutter strings that fit their buttons

Parla translates Android strings.xml, iOS .strings and Flutter .arb files. It keeps %1$s, %d, %@ and {name} placeholders intact, writes <plurals> with the categories each language needs, and flags translations likely too long for the source's space. Set a character limit on a button and text over it is blocked until shortened.

Plans from $29 a month; free to start with 1,000 AI-translated words a month.

What Parla reads from your files

  • Android: <string>, <plurals> and <string-array>; translatable="false" strings are skipped; Android escaping (\' and \n) is kept valid.
  • iOS: "key" = "value"; pairs, with the comment above each one used as context for the AI.
  • Flutter: .arb messages with ICU placeholders, @key descriptions used as context, and @@locale set per language.

Length, before it's a layout bug

Short labels grow the most in translation: a 7-character English button can easily double in German or French. Parla compares each translation with its source's length and the expansion normal for text that size, and flags what's likely too long.

Give a string a character limit (in the app, or a max_length column in CSV) and the AI is told; a translation over it is blocked until someone shortens it.

Placeholders checked in code

  • Positional %1$s and %2$d may be reordered for grammar; non-positional %s and %d must keep their order.
  • %@ on iOS and {name} in .arb must come back exactly.
  • Plural entries need every category the language uses: one and other in English, one, few, many and other in Polish.

Getting files back into the app

  • Download each language's file, or the pull request writes them where your project expects them.
  • Download a pseudo-localised file to test layouts before real translations arrive.

Questions

Can Parla tell me a translation won't fit?

It can't see your layout, so it estimates: it flags translations much longer than the source for text of that size, and blocks any that exceed a character limit you set. A reviewer decides what to shorten.

Does it handle Android plurals for languages like Russian?

Yes. A <plurals> entry is translated with every quantity the language uses (one, few, many and other for Russian), and a translation missing one is flagged.

Questions buyers ask

Can Parla translate Android and iOS strings?

Yes. Parla translates Android strings.xml (including plurals and string arrays), iOS .strings and Flutter .arb files, keeps %1$s, %@ and {name} placeholders intact, and flags translations likely too long for their space. Set a character limit on a button and anything over it is blocked.
